The definitive connection of the two mouths of the excavation to underground the passage of traffic on the dock next to the Botín Center has taken place on Thursday, January 9. The act was attended by Paloma Botín, member of the Board of Trustees of the Botín Foundation; Ignacio Diego, president of Cantabria; Iñigo de la Serna, mayor of Santander; and José Joaquín Martínez Sieso, president of the Port Authority. The councilors of works and tourism of Santander, César Díaz and Gema, respectively, also attended. Next to them has been the general director of the Foundation, Iñigo Sáenz de Miera; the Project Manager Ana Palencia; and responsible for the construction company: Pepe Magán (OHL) and Antonio Prieto (Ascan). The lower passing land movement, whose estimated excavation volume is about 61,000 m3, began on August 20, 2013 by the west mouth of the tunnel (located next to the Bahía hotel). The excavation by the mouth of the mouth (located next to the Palace del Embarcadero) began to be executed on November 14, 2013. Both excavation fronts have been connected and will only subtract the excavation work of the access to the parking of Alfonso XIII, as well as the adaptation of the slopes of the ramps of both mouths, to finish the tunnel land movement work, which which They have developed with conventional machinery (backhoe and trucks). Parallel to these works, the lower slab of the tunnel is being executed since mid -November, which will complete the main structure of the lower step. Once finished, the works will be concentrated in the execution of facilities, coating panels, extended of agglomerate and signaling, among others. The underground of the Paseo del Pier at this point will be 219 meters in covered surface length, which will double the surface of the Pereda gardens, taking them to the sea. The underground step will have two lanes in each direction, each of 3.5 meters wide, and there will be a median and sidewalks.
