The Cabo Mayor lighthouse presides over the entrance to the Bay of Santander. It is one of the most important and emblematic buildings for citizens and visitors alike and holds a privileged position between the sea and the city.

Located in the most north-easterly point of the city, the area surrounding the lighthouse forms part of an extense area featuring the Cabo Mayor and Cabo Menor headlands. The outstanding geographical features are the beaches, cliffs and a very indented coastline with points of up to 50 metres above the sea.

Situated on the outskirts of the city, the Cabo Mayor and Cabo Menor area has always had very varied scenery and atmosphere while serving various functions: maritime signal, defense point, race track, camp site, public park, golf course, tourist attraction, etc..
