Work on the Raos Bridge continues at a good pace
The Port Authority, in charge of the work’s technical management, is satisfied with the progress made in relation to this infrastructure. Just this week, the first pile from a group of eight has been positioned, which will support the first of the bridge piers.
Santander 16-02-08. Work on the foundations of the Raos Bridge has become a complete challenge in terms of port infrastructures, as never before have the foundations for a Port of Santander structure been embedded 30 metres into clay on the sea bed. This week, the first pile from a group of eight has been positioned, which will support the first of the two bridge piers located on the dock. In addition, once the bridge foundations had been laid on both sides of the dock, construction work began on the pile caps yesterday (Friday). This means that in a few days time, the construction will be seen above water level.
For Port Chairman Christian Manrique, this work, financed by the regional government of Cantabria, Santander City Council, State Ports and the Santander Port Authority, is an “excellent example of institutional partnerships to improve port activity and, most importantly, a way of contributing to a better city”, as this infrastructure will be the starting point for future developments along the whole maritime front. “The opening of this bridge will remove traffic that is extremely bothersome to citizens from the city’s access roads” added Manrique”.
