Minister for Education and Young People:

One of the Department for Education and Young People’s objectives is “to promote and encourage education in Cantabria”. This objective has arisen from the “Teaching project consisting of school visits to the Port of Santander”.

This educational project, which includes guided visits of the Port’s facilities, also involves the students reading the book “The Port of Santander”, which we are introducing here and which contains the activities included in the following student guides: “Welcome to our port”, The commercial port” and “The fishing port”; the main purpose of the activities is to reinforce and support the learning undertaken during the visit, but also to make the surrounding environment more accessible to the students (landscapes, institutions, cities, etc.).

These guides are extremely important within the educational curriculum, because of their interdisciplinary nature and also because through them, students will have the opportunity to understand the Port of Santander’s significance in Cantabria’s economic and social development.

We hope that this experience awakens in our students an interest in this part of our region and that they are able to expand their knowledge of Cantabria and its history.
